the nightingale (dir. robbi stevens)
the nightingale is a short-form film which follows the story of grace (esme pellegrini) - a bright, fun and creative university student who finds her life plunged into darkness when she is sexually assaulted at a party one night.
using a cohort of real stories from women who have experienced S.a, the film focuses on grace's trauma through to finding her power.
the images below catalogue the development of the project across multiple locations, interspersed with digital collages which i produced in collaboration with writer and director robbi stevens to project her vision for grace's world. this included a student radio station, the students' union bar, grace's house, the flat of professor richard wiggins, the student services office and a therapy room.
i was also responsible for sourcing and building props and creating graphics for this film. this included the 'dispatch radio' sign constructed from mdf board, reflective paint and neon tubing, a collection of brightly coloured prop drinks for the club bar, made using silicon gel and food colouring, and 5 posters created for the radio station and the lecture theatre at the fictional drapers university (bottom of the page).
