set in an afro-futurist world, one of the longest reigning kings of oyo has died. the new king of oyo, the birthplace of the ancient nigerian yoruba tribe, is chosen by the gods through traditional magic and spiritual initiation performed by the elders of the community. on this occasion, the gods rest the crown upon ayo ladigbolu - an unexpected black, british boy from south london...

the elders took their positions upon circles of black sand, surrounded by hanging pillars of fragile cloth. as props assistant for this short, I dressed the set with these organic, ritualistic centre pieces, spreading the sand gently and fluidly within the concrete temple.
